Lynn Donelson (Don) Wright

Director of Coastal & Environmental Research

As Director of Coastal & Environmental Research, Lynn Donelson (Don) Wright is responsible for the implementation, management and oversight of related SURA research projects.  These efforts help to create a robust coastal and environmental informatics infrastructure and the effect integration of unifying management of distributed, multi-scale and multi-disciplinary information, ideas and modeling results.

Prior to joining SURA, Dr. Wright served as Chancellor Professor of Marine Science and Director of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) at the College of William and Mary. Earlier, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Head of the Coastal Studies Unit at the University of Sydney (Australia).

Dr. Wright received a Ph.D. from the Coastal Studies Institute at Louisiana State University (1970), his Masters (with Honors) in Geomorphology at the University of Sydney (1967) and a B.A. in Geology and Geography from the University of Miami (Florida, 1965).

In these capacities, he has supervised 34 graduate students and the results of his research have been reported in over 200 scientific publications. His individual research interests are largely focused on bottom boundary layer and sediment transport processes in the coastal ocean and adjoining estuaries and involves elements of physical, geological, and biological oceanography. He currently resides in Inglis, Florida.
