SURA Information Technology Planning Meetings
July 28-29, 2005
(Agenda & Presentations)

The SURA IT Committee Steering Group held an Information Technology strategic planning event at the Atlanta airport on Thursday, July 28. This meeting included a reevaluation of SURA’s IT program portfolio and was immediately followed by the Summer 2005 meeting of the full SURA IT Committee on Friday, July 29 at the same location.

In light of the rapidly changing landscape for regional research and education networking and the growing interest in cyberinfrastructure and grid computing, SURA sought input from both our membership and our national partners as we examined our IT programs. To that end we assembled the following group of individuals for this planning event:

J.L. Albert, Georgia State University
Priscilla Hancock, Alabama – Birmingham
Richard Newman, Florida Tech
Robert Reynolds, University of Virginia
Dan Updegrove, Texas-Austin
Don Riley, University of Maryland
Sara Graves, Alabama-Huntsville
Dan Reed, University of North Carolina
Brian Voss, Louisiana State University
Roy Whitney, Jefferson Lab

Jay Sanders, Global Telemedicine Group
Jerry Draayer, SURA
Gary Crane, SURA
Sue Fratkin, Fratkin Associates
Mary Fran Yafchak, SURA

During this meeting (agenda and presentations) we examined SURA’s IT program initiatives in regional and national network connectivity, the definition and development of a SURA regional grid service (SURAgrid), IT and grid computing support for the SURA Coastal Ocean Observing and Prediction program, development of an AtlanticWave peering service to improve access to international partners and our current planning for a new SURA IT program in support of biomedical research and development within the SURA region.
