Termination of the SURA/ORNL Summer Program in Materials Research

The Department of Energy (DOE) has informed the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) that, because of budget constraints, it can no longer fund the SURA/ORNL Summer Program in Materials Research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Therefore, SURA cannot take applications for the program in 2006 or thereafter.

Since 1989, the program has enabled some 225 graduate students from more than forty universities to train with the scientists at ORNL. SURA greatly appreciate the support that DOE and ORNL have given to the SURA/ORNL program and regret its loss. SURA hopes that the contacts established over the years between university faculty and ORNL scientists will lead to future collaborations.
