Information Technology / IT Initiatives and Strategy / Grid Infrastructure: Workshop Series | ||||||||||||||
Current SURA organizes Cyberinfrastrcuture workshops to provide education and community building in support of grid deployment. The most recent workshop, Grid-Enabling Applications Workshop as part of the Mardi Gras Conference 2008 was held January 30, 2008 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, The workshop was organized by the SURAgrid Teach with Grids Working Group (SG-Teach) with the purpose to demystify "grid-enabling" by presenting state-of-the-art approaches and techniques from researchers who have successfully deployed applications on the grid. The workshop presentations are contained in the 15th Annual Mardi Gras Conference Proceedings located at the ACM portal. Past The first workshop on "Grid Application Planning & Implementation" was held January 2005 at Georgia State University and provided clear feedback that more and similar events are needed; also that industry partners are ready to support such efforts. The workshop was designed to expose attendees to a range of timely grid technology topics: concepts and perspectives about grid definitions, a broad range of applications benefiting from grids, recommendations and roadmaps for successful deployment, and access to expertise and peer support. Additional workshops have been held to expand on the range of topics covered, the depth of coverage in most critical areas and specific focus on events tailored to particular e-science application communities. A second workshop on Grid Application Planning & Implementation was held December 6-8, 2005 at the Texas Advanced Computing Center in Austin. Further, a Life Sciences and the Grid workshop was held a Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond January 9-11, 2006. |
