SURAgrid is a consortium of institutions and organizations collaborating and combining resources to create a distributed high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure (cyberinfrastructure) for the SURA region.
The SURAgrid Governance Committee is an elected body charged with two core purposes:

Ensuring that institutions and organizations investing in SURAgrid have an appropriate role in its governance; and
-
Supporting the sustainable growth of active community participation and cooperative engagement in enhancing the SURAgrid infrastructure.
June 2010, the current SURAgrid Governance Committee (SGC) was elected by the SURAgrid membership in accordance with the SURAgrid Governance Document. The SGC (8 elected, 1 appointed by SURA) members are:
- Chair, Art Vandenberg, Georgia State University (term expires 2012)
- Co-Chair, Phil Smith, Texas Tech University (term expires 2013)
- David Matthews-Morgan, University of Georgia (term expires 2013)
- John-Paul Robinson, University of Alabama at Birmingham (term expires 2012)
- Nicholas Tsinoremas, University of Miami (term expires 2013)
- Eduardo Socolovsky, Norfolk State University (term expires 2013)
- Phil Yang, George Mason University (term expires 2012)
- Jim Lupo, Louisiana State University (term expires 2012)
- Gary Crane, Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA appointed)
